About us

We are a community choir open to everyone.  No experience is necessary.  You don't need an audition to join. You don't need to read music.  All you need is a love of singing and a desire to learn new songs.

Bristol Voices is taught by Chris Samuel and Fran Bolton and run by its own members. There is a committee of 10 members who carry out the administrative function.

Perfect harmony?

We can't claim to be perfect. We'd rather get people to awaken their love of singing than frighten them away by having auditions. But we have fun trying to create the most gorgeous blended harmonies possible, singing an enormous range of songs from all sorts of cultures, genres and eras...

...from pop to Poland...
...from contemporary to Colombia...
...from soul to South Africa...
...from gospel to Georgia...
...from spooky to South America...
...from folk to Flanders...
...from blues to Bulgaria...
...from Christmas to Croatia

You name it (or hum it) and we'll probably try to sing it. With passion, with a love of the music, with a sense of humour and above all with a lot of fun.

Performances

We do a number of performances during the year but they're not compulsory if you don't fancy singing in public.  See the Performances page for more details.  We don't usually have extra rehearsals for forthcoming performances although we would try to meet earlier for a warm-up.  We wear choir colours of mainly black with something turquoise added such as a tie, scarf, jewellery item, hairband etc.

Interested in joining us ?

Anyone can join the choir, from enthusiastic committed teenagers up to those with a vast collection of life experiences! We welcome people from all walks of life, from all over Bristol, and from further afield if you'd like to travel to sing with us.

However......  Because of a significant rise in numbers recently we are not currently accepting new members, but we do have a waiting list.  If you'd like to join the list, please go to the 'contact us' page and send an email to our membership secretary.
