How it all began

A long long time ago, in the distant mist of Bristol history.... well actually in 1999.... a group of friends decided they'd really like to sing together. They applied for a start-up grant from the Gulbenkian Foundation, spread the word around the local community, found a teacher, and Bristol Voices Community Choir was born.

Bristol Voices grows up

From these humble beginnings the little choir has metamorphosed into a great big happy noisy family, with around 90 members taking the Voices' funky global harmonies to the streets. Teaching and direction comes from Chris Samuel and Fran Bolton who work closely with the choir to find out exactly what the members want. Some members volunteer to be on the committee to help run the choir.

Where is it all heading?

Bristol Voices has always been grounded in the belief that anyone can sing, and that singing is one of the best, most fun things you can do in a group of people.  We love to sing, and we'll sing just about anywhere, whether it's purely for our own pleasure, or performing our songs - particularly for charity events or at our own concerts and cabaret nights.

See us in action

This video was taken at the 2006 Bristol Voices End of Term Summer Concert at St Werburgh's Primary School.  It features a traditional Croatian song called Plovi Barko which we still perform.  It may take a little while to download.
